(Boonton, NJ) - Standing before a packed room at the Boonton Elks Lodge, Senator Tony Bucco and Assemblymen Michael Patrick Carroll and Anthony M. Bucco kicked off their 2011 re-election campaign with the backing of nearly 300 county and local elected officials, including Republican leaders from every municipality across the 25th Legislative District. The legislators focused their remarks on the need to continue protecting local jobs, tackling runaway spending in Trenton, and fighting for Morris County taxpayers.

Senator Tony Bucco: “There’s only one way to get this state back on the right track, and that’s by reducing the massive amount of spending in Trenton which has left us as one of the most indebted state’s in the nation, with a credit rating downgraded just last week to reflect how serious our future fiscal challenges are. That’s why it’s so important to have strong leaders who will address these problems responsibly by cutting what we can’t afford. We pledge to continue fighting for taxpayers every way possible, through additional pension and benefit reforms, cutting unnecessary spending wherever we find it, allowing businesses to grow and ensuring we leave a bright future for our kids and grandkids.”

Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll: “It’s imperative that we continue to fight for and deliver a conservative, fiscally responsible agenda that reduces the size of government, and lessens the tax burden on New Jersey families and seniors. Clearly, the years of runaway spending and ‘kicking the can down the road’ have brought a fiscal crisis that is finally forcing Democrats and Republicans alike to address the cost and scope of state government. I look forward to being a leader in that effort.”

Assemblyman Anthony Bucco: “Our team, in partnership with the administration, has worked tirelessly to save jobs here in Morris County, from keeping thousands of Honeywell jobs in Morris Township to ensuring the Whitlock Corporation is able to expand up in Wharton.  I’m proud to have two business-incentive bills signed into law that will help create jobs and continue to drive the economic engine for Morris County.  The two most important jobs we as legislators have right now are to reduce the size of our state’s budget, and helping businesses to create jobs for Morris County families. With your help and your support, we can continue your fight in Trenton.”

The legislative team was joined and introduced by Morris County Sheriff Ed Rochford and Clerk Joan Bramhall, who backed their re-election. While longtime Morris County Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen was unable to make the event in Boonton, he offered an endorsement of their campaign.

Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen: "Tony, Michael and Anthony have been a tremendous asset to Morris County taxpayers, fighting day in and day out to preserve and grow new good-paying jobs here in our area," said Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen of the 25th district team. "Additionally, they have demonstrated through word and action that they are conservative leaders committed to reducing state spending in ways that will have a meaningful impact on property taxpayers. This legislative team deserves our full support and I'm proud to stand with each of them in their re-election."

Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean: “Tony has been a long-time friend and ally to me in the Senate.  As a veteran legislator and as Budget Officer, his leadership has been vital in Republican efforts to bring change to Trenton; championing last year’s budget which for the first time in a decade didn’t raise taxes or borrow money.  Tony deserves our full support and with your help, together we will be able to regain the majority and bring conservative, long-lasting change to Trenton.”

Assembly Republican Leader Alex DeCroce: “I am proud to have Michael and Anthony as my colleagues in the Assembly.  Michael has consistently been a conservative voice for Morris County, helping to lead our fight for fiscal restraint, smaller and more efficient government and protection of our Constitutional rights.  As a freshman legislator Anthony has quickly become a strong voice and leader in our efforts to reform Trenton and get New Jersey back on track.  Both Michael and Anthony need our support in this critical election year as the Republican Party takes back the majority.”

“This year, it will be an honor to run on the same ticket as my father who has always been a tough campaigner,” said Assemblyman Bucco. “We’ve exchanged ideas, sponsored legislation, pushed each other to work harder, and have not been shy when it comes to our disagreements on policy. In all, I’m proud of the work we’ve accomplished and we’re ready to continue the fight for smaller government.”

“We have a great team that will continue to provide conservative leadership for Morris County. That’s what Trenton needs right now, and ensuring a Republican majority in both the Senate and Assembly will go a long way in fixing New Jersey’s long term problems,” said Senator Bucco.

Elected to the state Senate in 1997, Tony Bucco is a member of the Senate Republican leadership team in Trenton and currently serves as its Budget Officer. He previously served in the State Assembly, on the Morris County Board of Freeholders, and was Mayor of Boonton in the late 1980s.

Assemblyman Carroll has served in the General Assembly since 1996, and was formerly a member of Republican leadership between 2002 and 2005. A member of both the Judiciary and the Housing and Local Government Committees, he is an attorney in private practice. He lives in Morris Township with his wife and six children.

Anthony Bucco was elected in November 2009 to his first term in the state Assembly after having spent nearly 30 years participating in state and local community service organizations. The newest member of the Assembly Budget Committee, Anthony is a municipal attorney with over 22 years of experience dealing with local government issues. He lives in Boonton Township with his wife Amy, and together they have six children.
